Department Overview

We strive to be a unified team of expert clinicians, administrators, and support staff that provides our patients with exceptional, compassionate care through strong leadership, clear communication, focused education, and evidence-based practice.

We are the Blood and Marrow Transplant/Hematologic Malignancies unit at OHSU. We perform over 160 allogeneic and autologous stem cell transplants annually. 14K is a 30-bed unit that serves adult patients diagnosed with hematological malignancies including leukemias, lymphomas, Multiple Myeloma, and Myelodysplastic Syndrome. These patients are typically receiving high-dose chemotherapy and biotherapy with or without stem cell transplantation. Patients are typically immunocompromised and may experience severe infections, graft versus host disease, and other severe side effects of chemotherapy. Additionally, these patients are facing life-threatening illnesses and often have complex psychosocial needs. The patients on this unit are cared for by a multi-disciplinary team which includes attending physicians, registered nurses, nurse practitioners and physician's assistants, pharmacists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, a dietician, a social worker, and a case manager.

Populations:

  • Bone Marrow Transplant: Chemotherapy, GVHD, pain crisis, failure to thrive, end of life
  • Hematology Oncology: chemotherapy, pain crisis, neutropenic fevers, supportive care,

    effect management
  • Oncology Clinical Trial Candidates: clinical trial oral and IV agents, supportive care and
