4A Transplant, Urology, & Plastic Surgery Unit Department Summary:

 

We are the Transplant, Urology, and Plastics surgical inpatient adult acute care unit for OHSU. We specialize in solid organ transplant (kidney, pancreas, and liver), complex plastic reconstruction surgeries, and specialty urology services including gender-affirming procedures. We collaborate with our surgical service teams, as well as a broad multidisciplinary group including: PT/OT, dietitians, social workers, case managers, speech therapists, respiratory therapists, transplant coordinators and pharmacists to deliver exceptional evidenced-based care for our patients.

 

Primary Patient Populations:

    • Kidney Transplant, Liver Transplant, Simultaneous Pancreas-Kidney Transplant (SPK): Involves specialized pre and post-operative transplant care.
    • Plastic Reconstructive Surgery: Care for patients with complex surgeries including post-traumatic injuries, severe pressure injuries, and DIEP flap breast reconstruction post-operative care.
    • Urology: Care for patients undergoing specialized urological procedures involving urologic oncology, kidney stone disease, reconstructive urology, pelvic floor medicine, and gender-affirmation.
    • Nephrology: Provides care for patients with end-stage renal disease. 4A nurses are specialty trained to perform continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD).

 

14A GI & General Surgery Department Summary:

 

We are the Gastrointestinal and General Surgery inpatient adult acute care unit for OHSU. We specialize in major abdominal and other complex surgeries. Our nurses have extensive knowledge in wound and fistula care/management, negative-pressure wound therapy, and ostomy care.

 

We collaborate with our surgical service teams, as well as a broad multidisciplinary group including: PT/OT, dietitians, wound care nurses, social workers, case managers, speech therapists, respiratory therapists, and pharmacists to deliver exceptional evidenced-based pre and post-operative care for our patients.

 

Primary Patient Populations:

    • Blue Surgery: Pancreatic and splenic conditions, hernia repairs, fundoplication, Whipple procedures, and Total Pancreatectomy with Islet Autotransplantion (TPIAT).
    • Green Surgery: Hernia repairs, colorectal, fistula management, new ostomy and ileostomy takedowns. • Red Surgery: Bariatric surgery’s, esophagectomies, paraoesophageal hernia repairs.
    • Gold Surgery: Fast track Whipple procedures, HDR Brachytherapy

Function/Duties of Position

Hiring Bonus up to $10,000 DOE and Relocation Package Available. Must begin work by July 1, 2024 to qualify

 

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is a registered nurse (RN) who is responsible for upholding excellence in the provision of nursing care through the implementation of the Profession Practice Model. The ANM, in association with the Nurse Manager, is responsible for the managerial and leadership functions within a patient environment. The ANM functions primarily on evening and nightshift hours to provide operational oversight, consistency and continuity. The ANM partners with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure the delivery of safe, quality patient care and compliance with regulatory standards, and administrative and clinical policies and procedures. The ANM performs managerial activities, and demonstrates effective leadership behaviors including performing evaluations, employee mentoring, coaching, and performance management. The ANM implements quality and safety initiatives, engages in process improvement, ensures adherence to bargaining unit agreements and human resource management. The ANM creates and sustains a patient care environment that supports a safe, knowledgeable, compassionate, productive, and engaged staff.

 

The ANM’s decisions and actions are based on ethical principles as outlined by the American Nurses Association. The ANM practices in adherence with the American Nurses Association’s (ANA) Nursing Administration: Scope and Standards of Practice for Nurse Administrators, the ANA Code of Ethics, the Oregon State Board Nurse Practice Act, and within the context of the Nurse Executive Competencies developed by the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE). Required Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing Degree from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA)
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant clinical with strong charge nurse experience
  • Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network branch of AHA (upload documentation with online application)
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing or a related field
  • Certification in Specialty or NE-BC (required within 2 years of hire date)
  • Previous management experience
