Care in the Multispecialty Procedure Care Unit (MSPU) at Center for Health and Healing 2 and Multnomah Pavilion Endoscopy (MPV) is provided for adult patients across the age continuum who are having gastrointestinal related diagnostic and/or interventional procedures performed by either Gastroenterology, Therapeutic Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, Cardiology, and Hematology Oncology providers. The department is open Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM. RNs take mandatory call on Monday - Friday from 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM, and rotate weekend call, Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Department Specific Requirements:

• Requires ability to push patient in a stretcher around corners throughout the shift.
  Requires the ability to ride the aerial tram throughout the day
• Requires the willingness to work with High Level Disinfectants
• Requires the ability to work in a dark procedure room
• Requires the flexibility to stay focused and have your assignment changed several times throughout your shift
• Requires weekend and after hours ERCP call and ability to report to work within 30 min of being called – not required for Resource RN
• Requires ability to work in fluoroscopy room and standing for up to 3 hours wearing lead garments
• Requires ability to work in fast-paced environment that provides care for up to 15 patients per day
• Requires ability to move, turn, lift sedated patients using provided safe patient mobilization device
• Two years’ experience working in an endoscopy procedural area setting
• BLS and ACLS certification
• Annual hands-on competencies determined by unit need, regulatory requirements, and other evidence-based factors (i.e. moderate sedation administration and monitoring, peripheral IV insertion, motility and PH testing,
  telephone triage, procedural patient care, etc.)

• External applicants: Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing Degree from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA)
• Internal applicants: Associate's Degree in Nursing
• Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License by 1 week before start date
• BLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA). BLS must not expire during orientation or probation period.
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

• Current OHSU employees: BSN preferred

Department Specific Preferences (competencies, certifications, etc.):

• Experience performing moderate sedation preferred
• Experience performing motility and PH testing procedures preferred
• Experience with GI Surgery or medicine and the disease processes associated with them preferred

Orientation:
Length of Orientation:

• Specialty Fellowship: Experienced nurses transitioning to a new specialty population, 4-12 weeks
• Fellowship: Experienced nurses with at least 1 year of experience in specialty population, 2-8 weeks
• Resource Nurse: Time varies based on experience

Program Schedule:

• Self-directed modules and preceptorship shifts are integrated weekly for up to 40 hours per week
• Preceptorship Shifts: Assigned based on Preceptor Team schedules during Monday-Friday 0700-1730, Monday-Friday 1730-2000, and Saturday- Sunday 0700-1700.

Transition to Independent Practice:

• Based on readiness to practice safety and the completion of group-based sessions.
