Doernbecher Short-Stay and PACU are the PeriAnesthesia units within the Pediatric Perioperative Division. The RN provides care consistent with ASPAN standards and evidence-based practice. The RN is responsible for participating in the growth of the nursing profession and continuous improvement to achieve best practice in our unit to increase the value of care we provide to our patients and families.
We provide fast-paced, patient and family-centered, pediatric PeriAnesthesia care. Pediatric patient populations range from neonates to young adults and include ambulatory, inpatient, urgent/emergent surgeries, after hour’s sedation and prolonged procedural recoveries. Positive collegial relationships with all interdisciplinary team members.
The PeriAnesthesia unit is staffed Monday to Friday from 0600 to 2230. Shift start times and lengths are variable. RN staff are required to take call for surgeries after hours, holidays and weekends based on the unit rotation. RNs provide pre- and post-anesthesia care.
