Department Overview

OHSU Perinatal Newborn Float Pool (PNFP) nurses provide high-quality, innovative and compassionate family-centered nursing care. PNFP nurses support Labor & Delivery and the postpartum units. Pediatric PNFP nurses support these units for selected planned and unplanned absences and for other staffing deficits.

  • OHSU is a Magnet designated teaching hospital with 24x7 Attending and multidisciplinary Provider coverage so you will have the support you need at all times.
  • Goal to meet AWHONN staffing standards.
  • Opportunity to work on both L&D and postpartum units so you can see the whole continuum of care for patients from admission to discharge.
  • A high percentage of nurses on this unit hold advanced certifications so you are working with the best of the best.
  • We have inpatient lactations services.
  • We support approx. 200 deliveries/month, a large volume of these are high acuity patients, for example we have a Maternal Cardiac program and support long-term antepartum care.
  • Our nurses are represented on our Professional Governance Council.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 1 year recent Labor & Delivery or Postpartum  RN experience
  • BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
  • ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
  • Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
  • Internal ONA applicants: Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN preferred
  • Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
  • BLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Certification (NRP)
  • BLS must not expire during orientation
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years labor & Delivery or postpartum RN experience in a high-acuity care setting
  • Maternal Newborn, Inpatient Obstetric or other applicable specialty certification
  • AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring Certification
  • Experience in a float pool

Additional Details

Length of Orientation  

  • Experienced Nurse (Fellowship or Specialty Fellowship) with >1 year of experience:
    • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Learning Pathway or Orientation experience individualized to the candidate between 2-14 weeks.
