OHSU is where healing, teaching and discovery come together. Magnet-designated OHSU is Oregon's only academic health center, and the OHSU Brain Institute is the first Joint Commission-designated Comprehensive Stroke Center in the Pacific Northwest.
We receive patients in referral from Oregon, Washington, Northern California, with outliers from as far as Idaho and Montana. As a critical care unit, the nurse to patient ratio is either 1:1 or 1:2 due to the acuity of the patient population. In addition to being the first dedicated Neuroscience ICU in the state of Oregon, we are also nationally certified as an Comprehensive Stroke Center. Our nurses work in collaboration with a neurointensivist team which provides 24/7 coverage for our patient population.
The nurses of the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) provide patient and family centered care to the patient populations of neurosurgery, neuro-medical and stroke including: subarachnoid hemorrhage, cerebrovascular aneurysms, microvascular decompression, cerebrovascular thrombosis, intraparenchymal hemorrhage, subdural hematoma, tumor resection, myasthenic crisis, aneurysm clipping, coiling, and stents.
Join us! Our 17-bed ICU has immediate access to 24-hour CT and MRI services, OR and interventional radiology suites to enable rapid access to care. Our typical cases include complex neurosurgery, ischemic stroke, intracranial hemorrhage, neuromuscular disorders and epilepsy (among others). Night differentials, free parking, and the opportunity to be a part of the expansive specialty that is Neuroscience!
