Department Overview

The CHH Outpatient Care Unit and Perianesthesia Cross Trained Nurse is a nurse that will work in both OCU and CHH Perianesthesia Units. Please refer to Article 5.5 of the ONA Contract: 

 

5.5 Cross-Trained Position. A Cross-Trained Position is a nursing position that nurses may apply and be hired into or transfer into that requires the nurse to work in two related units as part of their FTE requirement. Nurses who are cross-trained and work in two units do not count as floating. The Employer shall provide orientation pursuant to Section 7.15. 

 

 

The OCU/CHH Perianesthesia Cross Trained Nurse must meet the following requirements.

  • Trained to provide Phase II and Phase III Care
  • Attest that you are able to complete tasks, duties and responsibilities in the OCU/CHH Perianesthesia Cross Trained RN position description
  • Must keep up with both units required education
  • Review the order of scheduling and curtailment in the ONA contract

 

CHH2 OCU provides care to adolescent through geriatric patients ranging from 14-100+ who have a variety of diagnoses which require surgical interventions and recovery for Red/Green/Gold/Blue Surgery, Ear/Nose/Throat (ENT), Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Plastics, Urology, Gynecology, ElectroPhysiology (EP)/Cardiac Catheterization (Cath)/Interventional Radiology (IR), Urogynecology, Oculoplastics, Vascular, and Ophthalmology.

 

Function/Duties of Position

The OHSU Clinical registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations. The Clinical RN's care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics. The Clinical RN demonstrates the professional role obligations of scientist, leader, and knowledge transferor [Onsomble Model of the Professional Role™]. Required Qualifications

  • Two years of RN experience in post-surgical care in a high acuity medical facility, or one year ICU/PACU/ED RN experience
  • Associates or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 
  • Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
  • Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
  • BLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) - must not expire during orientation
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Clinical experience caring for post-surgical patients as an RN, student or other capacity
  • Certified in Medical-Surgical Nursing or Perianesthesia Nursing
  • BSN is preferred
  • Experience in a high-level acuity medical facility  

Additional Details

Length of Orientation – Experienced Nurse

  • External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
  • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
