Department Overview

Family Medicine at Scappoose is a primary care Family Medicine clinic and Rural Health Center (RHC). The patient population includes pregnant people, babies, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. The patients are generally moderately stable to moderately unstable, with complex medical conditions and SDOH barriers that require medical and nursing interventions. These include, but are not limited to, oral and injectable medications, foot care, telephone and in-clinic triage, care coordination, health education, complex wound care, pain management, and behavioral and/or crisis management. 

Function/Duties of Position

The OHSU Clinical registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations. The Clinical RN’s care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics. The Clinical RN demonstrates the professional role obligations of scientist, leader, practitioner, and knowledge transferor [Onsomble Model of the Professional Role™]. Professional accountability enriches the Clinical RN’s engagement as a leader in promoting an inter-professional culture of collaborative decision-making, innovation, life-long learning, and teamwork. Nurses perform patient visits, telephone triage and advice, and manage an in-basket workload in EPIC where pts. are reviewed for Care Management, Care Coordination, and follow up for hospital and ED discharges. 

 

Visit types offered at Family Medicine at Scappoose for all providers are: In-person, virtual, and telephone.

Most nursing work occurs outside of scheduled visits and services include

  • Nurse telephone triage, with some in-clinic Nurse triage
  • OB intake and support visits
  • Wound Care
  • IV visits
  • Patient education

Required Qualifications

  • BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
  • ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
  • Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
  • Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
  • BLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • BLS must not expire during orientation
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

 

Department Specific Requirements:

  • New Grad:
    • Must have 90 hours of direct patient care through a practicum or capstone in a community health setting.
  • Experienced:
    • Must have two years of direct patient care experience within the last three years. 
  • Annual and just in time competencies and health compliance requirements determined by organization, unit, regulatory body, and other evidence-based factors.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current clinical nurse experience in an ambulatory care setting including telephone triage. 
  • Experience working in Primary Care, a Rural Health Center (RHC) or a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) setting within the last three years.
  • Nursing professional certification in Ambulatory Nursing or other relevant specialty-population.  

 

Additional Details

Length of Orientation – New Graduate Nurse

  • External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
  • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Residency Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for about 10-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.

 

Length of Orientation – Experienced Nurse

  • External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
  • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
