Department Overview

The PIMC provides Intermediate level care for Medical/Surgical patients 0-18 years of age, excluding obstetric patients.  Populations served include non-ICU Neurosurgical, Video EEG and spectrum scan Peritoneal Dialysis, Chronic trach/ventilated patients, Select Hyperbilirubinemia, Select Cardiac Surgery, and Research Patients, complex post –op patients including orthopedic spine patients, cranis, and bladder augmentations.

Function/Duties of Position

Work Environment:

Significant computer work.

Some exposure to excessive auditory and visual stimulation.

Frequent interruptions, change and fluctuations.

Minimal risk of exposure to human tissue/fluids and radiation. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & EQUIPMENT USAGE: This describes the physical requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this position. Example: Ability to carry and lift up to 35 pounds. Ability to stand for four continuous hours a day. • Ability to stand, sit, move around the work area, lift, bend, stoop, reach, carry, push, pull, and work throughout the work period. Able to lift 35 lbs. independently. Complies with evidence-based lifting and positioning practices. • Must be able to use the following senses: seeing, hearing, touching, and smelling; and speak. Reasonable accommodations include corrective lenses and hearing aids. • Able to use hospital equipment as needed, including significant use of a computer, keyboard, software, printers, multi-line phones, copiers, and fax machines. 

Required Qualifications

 

  • PALS

  • BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date. 
  • ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.  
  • Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire 
  • Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License 
  • BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation 

Additional Details

Length of Orientation – Experienced Nurse

  • External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
  • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.

 

 

Length of Orientation – New Graduate Nurse

  • External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
  • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Residency Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for about 10-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
